Empowerment of Girls exists to empower girls by promoting self-esteem and the development of leadership skills in an environment safe for girls to embrace their uniqueness and celebrate diversity.

 

The goals of Empowerment of Girls are to provide The purpose of this program is to empower girls by promoting self-esteem and the development of leadership skills of girls ages 9-12 in an environment safe for girls to embrace their uniqueness and celebrate diversity. This mentor-based program is offered at six elementary schools and one middle school in Cass and Clay counties.

  • Increase independence & confidence in themselves
  • Learn to accept others & be respectful of their differences
  • Become active & influential participants & leaders in their communities
  • Better decision making skills & plan for their future

Programs

The YWCA Empowerment of Girls Program is off to a variety of new and exciting adventures. The purpose of our programs are to enrich a girls life with experiences that show her that she can do anything she puts her mind to. This motivating environment combined with making new friends and discovering hidden talents will be sure to make this an unforgettable experience.

 

Works for Girls

Works for Girls is an after school program offered to girls in the 4th-6th grade. It encourages and provides a supportive environment in order for girls to discover personal talents and abilities. Girls will be able to take part in interactive games, art projects, field trips and activities designed to encourage learning and fun. Works for Girls is currently offered at six elementary schools sites within the community:

  • Westside: Tuesdays 2:45-4:15
  • Clara Barton: Wednesdays 2:45-4:15
  • Robert Asp: Thursdays 3:00-4:30
  • Bennett: Fridays 3:00-4:30


Works for Girls starts in September and runs through April. We encourage participation for the entire year, however we do enroll one semester at a time. This after school program is taught by college age mentors who are recruited and trained by the YWCA Cass Clay.

 

PRIDE for Girls

PRIDE for Girls is an after school program for girlsin 6th and 7th grade. This program is similar to Works for Girls but deals with age appropriate issues that girls face in middle school today. Girls take part in games, art projects, field trips, and activities that encourage learning and fun. PRIDE for Girls is currently being offered at two middle school locations. PRIDE for Girls runs from September to April. We encourage girls to sign up for a year but we do enroll per semester. This after school program is taught by college aged mentors who are recruited and trained by the YWCA Cass Clay.

  • Carl Ben: Mondays
  • Horizon: Thursdays 2:30-4pm

Works for Girls and PRIDE for Girls both us antibiased curriculum as we strive to fulfill the mission of the YWCA - to empower women and girls and eliminate racism as we move toward our shared vision of equality.

Home Alone Workshop

The YWCA Cass-Clay offers special sessions just for girls. We have a Home Alone Workshop which teaches girls about being safe while they are home alone or caring for others. This program is offered to girls ages 9-12.

  • The Home Alone Workshop: April 29 or May 6, 1-4 p.m.

TechGYRLS

TechGYRLS is offered to girls in 4th-7th grades and runs for 10 weeks. As a partnering program with NDSU’s IME department, it provides girls with a hands-on exploration of different technologies with the assistance of college women mentors from SWE, The Society of Women Engineers. Our goal is to help girls develop the confidence to use technology and discover links between science and math.

  • Monday’s– 4:00-6:00
TechGYRLS starts in September 2006!
